The CIA drama stars Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, and Richard Gere. The AgencyRelease Schedule: When Do New Episodes Come Out?
Press a random button on your TV remote and I bet a spy drama starts playing on the screen. The sub-genre is everywhere nowadays. From Netflix’s Black Doves and The Night Agent to Prime Video's Reacher, Apple TV+’s Slow Horses, and Paramount’s Lioness—every streamer wants a piece of the action. Audiences love a good espionage thriller, but nearly every series feels indistinguishable from the other. That’s where The Agency comes in.
Turns out, boosting one of these CIA dramas with a cast including Michael Fassbender (The Killer), Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction), Jodie Turner-Smith (After Yang), Richard Gere (Oh, Canada), and John Magaro (September 5) can really do a lot for the genre. So does a plot that doesn’t send your protagonists on a wild good chase. There's only so much I can take of plots that sound something like this: Find ahard drive which contains a video file that goes all the way up to the vice president that... Oh no, they’re going to assassinate the president! You know the drill. Thankfully, The Agency is a much more well-crafted drama.
The story follows a spy named Brandon (Fassbender), who is suddenly pulled off a mission in Sudan after living undercover for six years. The CIA plans to suspend his mission and promote him to a Senior Case Officer position in London considering all the good work he’s done in Africa. Still, six years is a long time. When Brandon returns, he struggles to adjust. He also attempts to maintain a relationship with the woman (Turner-Smith) that he fell in love with while he was undercover. In this crazy world of double agents and false identities, who can he trust?
The Agency also kicks the door down at the beginning of every episode with a Jack White cover of U2’s “Love Is Blindness.” So many shows today just flash the title over a black screen and call it a day. The Agency knows the power of a good title sequence. If you couldn’t already tell, it’s a must-watch.
The Agency is now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime. You can even watch the first two episodes for free without a subscription. After that, the series streams new episodes weekly every Friday through January 24, 2025.
Here’s the more complicated part. Much like Yellowjackets, The Curse, and the upcoming Dexter prequel, there's a higher tier of subscription for select shows. So, you need to subscribe to the Paramount+ with Showtime tier ($12.99/month), which is just a little more expensive that the regular Paramount+ subscription ($7.99/month).
The Agency episodes also release on different days depending on whether you are streaming the series or watching Showtime on cable. To help sort out the full release schedule, check out the official dates below.
